Jewish music today is in the process of a metamorphosis. It is becoming a modern day interpretation of tradition. Stacy Beyer believes that this new movement can and should be enhanced by the presence of more, new Jewish music. This songwriter's workshop is designed to open the doors not only to those who might someday contribute to the new Jewish music scene, but to also give light to the value of personal prayer and expression of Jewish ideas by anyone who chooses to express them.
Stacy's Jewish Songwriters Workshops give participants a chance to explore the creation of lyrics and music. Working with Jewish themes and how they relate to our lives today, Stacy guides students through a 'no pressure' process of understanding basic songwriting and how to apply this understanding to the art of creating works that are representative of students' thoughts, feelings and perspectives. It is truly an amazing process. It is an opportunity to explore the journey we take each day...viewing the world around us...and defining our place in the world. It is a constructive and positive way to bring out, what is within. An it is an outlet for our daily struggles and a pathway to understanding.
As the workshop begins, Stacy will play recordings of familiar Jewish prayers set to new music by artists that are currently doing concerts tours around the US. As the workshop progresses, the focus will center on lyrics and overall musical intention. Stacy will discuss creating melodies for lyrics. Then, once a title is created, each student will be given time to write.
