STACY BEYER BIO
Stacy Beyer grew up in Long Island, New York...and music has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember. The New York State Board Of Education passed a waiver in 1973 to allow Stacy (then age 13) to attend the State University of New York at Stony Brook as a part-time, non-matriculated student. Stacy would go to Jr.High School for a half day and then attend college classes for the remainder of the day. She graduated High School at the age of 17 and received her B.A. in music from Stony Brook State University at the age of 19...she graduated suma cum laude.
The next 10 years included touring the U.S. and abroad both as a solo performer (singer/songwriter) and featured performer in jazz/big band and rock/pop venues, as well as theater productions and soap operas. For four years, Stacy lived in New York City, composing music for film and television...she produced various pop/rock bands and many times, sang the National Anthem at Shea Stadium for the New York Mets.
In 1990, Stacy moved to Nashville, TN. It was there that her love of and connections to Jewish music began to blossom. Stacy was enjoying a career as a staff writer for EMI Music Publishing, and had several cuts by both well known and up and coming recording artists, like Tracy Byrd and Steve Azar. She even had a #1 hit in Australia for 16 weeks…but she felt herself drawn to the music that touched her more deeply than any other.
With the guidance and encouragement of Cantor Bernard Gutcheon (Temple Ohabai Sholom, Nashville,TN), Stacy began to spend much of her writing-time, creating musical pieces for 'simchas' and special Jewish Community events. Warner Brothers Records recorded two of Stacy's Chanukah songs for a project entitled 'A Children's Chanukah'. These two songs have become standards in many Nashville public and
private schools' Holiday-time concerts. The Nashville Symphony, along with the Metro School's Children's Choir has performed one of them -'The Hand That Lights The Candle', in their Holiday Pops Concert at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
In February of 2002, Stacy released her first CD entitled 'Find Your Voice'...a collection of many of those special pieces that Stacy created over the years, along with a couple of new pieces written especially for the project.
This first CD generated great interest in Stacy's music. For years, she had been performing regionally for Jewish organizations. Soon she was invited to San Antonio, to perform at her first CAJE Conference and again the following year in Ohio. At CAJE 29 in New York, the title cut from her first CD (Find Your Voice) was used as the opening and closing themes of the conference. Soon, her tour schedule began to blossom and one year later, Stacy was invited to perform at the URJ North American Biennial in Houston,TX, in November 2005. Two of her pieces - "Climbing Up The Tree Of Life" and "Hodu L'Adonai" were used as theme music throughout the week of Biennial.
In the fall of 2004, Stacy released a new CD entitled 'Ha Makom ~The Place' These 10 new songs, written especially for this recording project, reflect a new sound in contemporary Jewish music. The arrangements and production are cutting edge – both fresh and exciting.
Recently, Stacy was comissioned by her own congregation to write and record a CD of original Chanukah music.
This past season marked the debut of this wonderful CD, entitled ‘Must Be Chanukah’ … many of the songs from this project were immediately included in congregational Chanukah services around the country.
Stacy produces her music in many styles...from a jammin' and rockin 'Ahavat Olam' to a hold up your flashlights and sway 'You Shall Love'...from her funky-hip'Sh'ma' ...to the pop-rock-radio friendly 'Shehecheyanu'. Stacy enjoys combining singable melodies with catchy grooves...stretching the boundaries while blending with the traditional.
Stacy has appeared in Jewish South Magazine, Reform Judaism Magazine, Moment Magazine and various compilation CDs include her songs...i.e. Transcontinental Music's Ruach 5765 CD.
Stacy continues to touch listeners of all ages with her soul, spirituality and sensitivity. Her voice is unforgetable and her music is making its way into worship services, Sunday Schools, camps, concerts, publications and hearts across the U.S. Stacy plays keyboard and she travels with her co-producer/guitarist (and recent Grammy Winner), Gary Dales. In April 2006, along with appearances in Ohio and Florida, Stacy performed as part of the first International Jewish Music Festival in New Orleans at Tulane University and at the Tennessee State Capitol, where she was asked to perform her song ‘It Will Never Happen Again’ for the statewide memorial observance of Yom HaShoah.
Stacy has a busy tour schedule with bookings for services, concerts and workshops around the country. These workshops for composing Jewish songs are inspiring and enlightening. They create a great environment for self-exploration and prayerful expression.
This summer, Stacy will be the featured performer to open Hadassah’s 92nd National Annual Convention at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN. She’ll also be Artist-In-Residence at URJ’s Camp Coleman…and in August, Stacy will be Vocal Music Artist-in-Residence at the first ever JCCA Maccabi ArtsFest in Baltimore, MD.
Stacy’s CD’s are distributed by Craig-‘n-Co. and Soundwrite Productions, as well as on her own website and CD Baby.
Stacy is a wife and the mother of three children. She is an Artist-in-Residence, Cantorial soloist and Religious School Music Teacher at Congregation Ohabai Sholom, in Nashville, TN.
